Three test samples, each individual sample consisting of three or more layers of non-separable* ~/ L4 ~: l" j, w E7 S
thin sheet material forming REINFORCED INSULATION, are used. One sample at a time is fixed to
7 {; J% p& }) V5 Y3 s7 S1 @! l# }the mandrel of the test fixture (Figure 14) as shown in Figure 15.

If a sample breaks during rotation where it is fixed to the mandrel or the clamping device, this( @- ^ y2 A9 ]7 ^& V2 B& |
does not constitute a failure and the test is repeated on a fresh sample. If a sample breaks at1 U) \2 V6 g) h
any other place, the test has failed.; E# w8 `6 C/ `) Z) j, V$ ~
After this preconditioning, a sheet of metal foil, 0,035 mm ± 0,005 mm thick, at least 200 mm" H/ x7 e9 U$ E$ X% k& r
long, is placed along the surface of the sample, hanging down on each side of the mandrel: C: k4 l/ R! F P1 M. w* C
(see Figure 16). The surface of the foil in contact with the sample shall be conductive, not6 Y% W! o& @: I* _; u
oxidised or otherwise insulated. The foil is positioned so that its edges are not less than 18 mm5 P, Z4 D8 c& e- n9 b
from the edges of the sample (see Figure 17). The foil is then tightened by two equal weights,, W: d! L! P. o v7 @
one at each end, using appropriate clamping devices.9 @* L5 |, y% e2 b" x6 p1 R9 O$ `
While the mandrel is in its final position, and within the 60 s following the final positioning, a4 I" g; Q9 i2 I7 Z3 T# ?/ p8 L
dielectric strength test is applied between the mandrel and the metal foil in accordance with
; _( W& `; ^2 ~% W10.3.2, using a test voltage of 1,5 times the value specified in Table 5 for REINFORCED
+ g! \! c) H8 q2 l# S; r& I3 y( [5 VINSULATION, but not less than 5 kV.9 T' B7 m1 c, d( K3 z# S$ g! n
The entire test procedure is repeated on the other two samples.6 c9 V+ Y1 g7 Z% a' Z
No flashover or breakdown shall occur during the test; corona effects and similar phenomena being disregarded.4 P& w: U [. |# m, `9 a0 ?+ g. f% q9 G
