2.10.5.1 General- C! f* G7 C& D) Q, d3 N; m
In 2.10.5, the requirements for SOLID INSULATION (except those for thin sheet material) and for
# h8 C$ j D& L. yinsulating compound also apply to gel materials, used for this purpose.
7 e2 {5 Q. s1 w1 Z- C% [+ H$ lSOLID INSULATION shall be:. \' |4 p0 g# [4 S2 u
− so dimensioned that overvoltages, including transients, that enter the equipment, and$ r# J; _2 d7 B% u/ P# b Z
peak voltages that may be generated within the equipment, do not break down the SOLID: f4 i9 S$ U) G7 t
INSULATION; and
$ N3 Y( a( q! W7 `, z' T− so arranged that the likelihood of breakdown occurring due to the presence of pinholes in
1 g8 M$ T' @# n$ kthin layers of insulation is limited.
$ \1 X" B" b7 u7 aSolvent-based enamel is accepted only on winding wire as described in 2.10.5.13." ~! t$ E6 E9 E- ]' `* z" b
Except for printed boards, SOLID INSULATION shall either) b w8 G; T. y& A* S9 _0 T& W
− comply with minimum distances through insulation in accordance with 2.10.5.2; or/ J% Y$ O7 M. H4 A8 v' E
− meet the requirements and pass the tests in 2.10.5.3 to 2.10.5.13, as applicable.

electric strength tests of 5.2 and by any additional tests required in 2.10.5.4 to 2.10.5.14.+ w. `0 _) L4 K' r/ h
2.10.5.2 Distances through insulation$ f2 |: }; U; g4 J8 m4 G
If a design is based on distances through insulation, these distances shall be dimensioned3 O4 F9 L( K4 L7 T7 L/ D6 e- a$ _
according to the application of the insulation (see 2.9) and as follows (see Figure F.14):
* r1 J" x$ w$ ?7 B# u2 g) O F! [− if the PEAK WORKING VOLTAGE does not exceed 71 V, there is no requirement for distance

• for FUNCTIONAL INSULATION and BASIC INSULATION there is no minimum distance through/ N6 N1 F4 i* o" Y& N: ?$ ]$ g
insulation;
