Question: Is it possible to issue approvals on luminaires provided with LEDs light source?
Decision: Yes, provided that:
+ f1 |$ M: S0 x# z3 [  Q5 B6 L+ Y(1) The LED circuit is verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-2 (*) or IEC/EN
61347-2-11. If the laser emits radiation in the wavelength range from 180 nm to 1
mm, the LED shall also be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1 (Safety of laser
0 ]: A) M$ v- |% }$ Rproducts). Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be used without problems
for lighting purposes without protection.
(2) The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 are carried out as
- {6 s$ P& @3 Z2 G& ]+ q! D8 Mfollows:
(a) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear can be tested
according to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.
. t6 Y9 z# ~% @6 c' i1 W(b) For Class III luminaires, the luminaires manufacturer shall provide on
the instructions all the necessary information to supply the LED circuit
0 f+ K4 G" Z+ Q4 i' P9 H. Zcorrectly or shall inform the Testing Station about the trade mark, the type
and the technical characteristics of the appropriate control gear. There can
; p! W9 U! E, C$ P2 K- j. T8 x$ xbe three different control gears: the type and the trade mark indicated by the
luminaire manufacturer; an electronic control gear clearly specified on the
luminaire instructions; a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be
carried out as required in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with
9 D$ p  t; I+ o8 e9 Lthe appropriate control gear.
(*) When IEC/EN 61347-2-13 will be published, it will takes over IEC/EN
61347-2-2.
