According to 8.3.3.1.2, when the over-current opening release is a built-in part of the2 q8 N! v; b9 r0 ^3 I) F
circuit breaker, it shall normally be verified inside the corresponding circuit breaker.
4 Q1 A7 N9 P9 V2 CFor example, in case an air circuit-breaker (ACB) has a rating of 6300 A with an" C; T: J3 J8 _1 e; o+ N
instantaneous trip release up to 16 In, do we have to apply 80640 A (16 In x 80 %)1 ^: P* c' v5 p  J1 i6 }
and 120960 A (16 In x 120 %) to the main circuit of ACB by use of a high power
; L' d/ z: ?3 ptesting facility when performing the trip test of SEQ. I?

It is not so easy to conduct the instantaneous trip test using the high currents
) Z" \/ ?5 i" jmentioned above, because to do so a high power testing facility is required. In
3 L0 X9 o6 p6 D) G9 K* r2 kaddition ACBs often have several ratings, which are determined by the specification
6 M) r; N" U. b4 g+ l3 o9 V% Vof the CT in combination with the trip unit, and the trip unit is usually the same for all: B% ^+ v7 {( P: z" l3 l8 |5 T
models.8 H9 c% V- a+ V  {
So some accredited testing laboratories have performed this test by applying the
# C8 ], J3 }& R  ssecondary current of CT (normally 5 A) to the input of an overcurrent release. This. A# ~& r6 T7 ~1 o, G0 u8 I- O* Q. E7 a
release is connected to operating mechanism of contacts to check the mechanical
3 Y3 n- G8 U1 u' C' B$ w4 `3 topening of an ACB. But by use of this method, we bypass possible problems such
  J5 ?" a8 k) \3 [1 ~2 a* fas CT saturation, thermal and EMC influence on ACB, especially on single-pole
9 i0 m6 P/ [. Y7 P: Cconnection.
% z4 a, S! @5 k. e. @* @* @  w7 fDecision:. ~3 @0 p6 M2 c" o6 b
The secondary current of the CT (reduced current, 5 A, for example) may be used+ V! o* J4 D; M7 y8 \  D) U
for trip tests of ACBs integrated with electronic OCR for all ratings of In, but only for: U3 Z7 i) N$ c$ o$ t& F$ u
sub-clause 8.3.3.1.2 of SEQ I.- P+ o8 V# ?6 H, @! K
But in addition, followings items shall be verified to fully cover the safety aspects of$ ?; `; B/ B' l( D# d
the standard:
- t0 h# ]8 E3 P& [7 p! e, U2 A1. The conformity of the performance (at least turn ratio and composite error)
4 Z+ s3 y" S- \+ q$ r! ^6 h; h9 L" Qof the CT or Rogowski coil, if any, shall be verified by specifications, test
+ I7 \# N2 b) Dreports or certificates. All CTs of the circuit-breakers of the given frame
6 Y% V8 k3 j; Y# Z  X4 R3 H) Xsize have to show the same performance characteristic.
5 Q- A6 B6 q/ z3 i3 [- ~2. The single pole short-circuit test with a current equal to 80 % of the3 B+ S# ^2 G: w
maximum current setting of the instantaneous release and equal to 120 %
2 Y- i% q' C7 o  x$ Uof the maximum current setting of the instantaneous release shall be
5 N" ?  e9 u5 ^3 Q* @4 G; j& ~performed at any convenient voltage with the current in the main poles of1 Y# n2 u: {: y, B
the circuit-breaker. The other tests required by the standard may be
+ h2 K: z7 ?2 E& Cconducted by use of a simulated input signal to the tripping unit.
