! n% p* N' S: T* M" B& ]Decision: In principle apply the requirements given in IEC/EN 60825-1. However in order
& l6 S; f8 d- m( mto avoid expensive measurements, the luminaires provided with LEDs should be$ B0 l% d) Y- M( V# w
treated in the following:1 d! d: T8 k E/ I/ Z1 _- x
- If the light intensity is low, i.e. from a conventional LED for indication or signalling) |& ]9 }/ C2 [$ E" a/ _0 _# u N
purposes, the LED is most likely comparable with a laser of Class 1 according to
% m( _- e: N3 L3 R5 P3 Z/ A0 ] a1 PIEC/EN 60825-1 and consequently there is no need measurements. During the6 N+ j* e# j" s/ m% o* y4 H
judgement the covers, optics and similar, which can be removed by hand, shall be
; a' Q& J; h) Y! g- s* `removed. In the TRF it is indicated that the light intensity has been judged to comply4 p" V6 v8 r( H( K J4 ]$ ^ p
with the limits given for Class 1 lasers in IEC/EN 60825-1 and no measurements are

) z3 Y0 T, d, U! z- In all other cases the luminaire manufacturer shall be asked to provide a declaration8 o4 f4 a3 f- I4 v n) R4 z
based on relevant tests (e.g. from the LEDs manufacturer) showing that the radiation
a6 U, r9 \( y: z1 K7 Jfrom the LED module will not exceed the values given in IEC/EN 60825-1 for Class 1% S2 P2 r+ x5 K( E3 {4 m
or1M lasers with or without optics. In the TRF it is noted that judgements have been( ^7 I- d* Y) \* y; d) @' o, J
based on a manufacturer declaration.+ Y4 h# O; P; O% Z. i
- If such a declaration cannot be provided or if we are insecure on how to judge, the/ U, Q8 ^: L) U9 s+ h. w! d9 ~
measurements given in IEC/EN 60825-1 shall be performed. In the TRF it is indicated+ M, j0 s# o. w: p. n& u/ N, Z" v/ C
that measurements have been performed. For luminaires containing light sources
) O, r: `# Y/ M1 i" hproviding radiation according to Class 2 lasers, the luminaire shall be treated as a laser- R" K% w" |" v
source according to IEC/EN 60825-1 and comply with the requirements given in that2 C7 N: o& T- a/ ?$ l5 ~
standard.
