2.10.5 Solid insulation

1 z% x/ p* t3 y0 m3 \# Q− so dimensioned that overvoltages, including transients, that enter the equipment, and
' Z: S; M/ {) speak voltages that may be generated within the equipment, do not break down the SOLID
0 x% e4 G: W. X$ H( M Q5 oINSULATION; and* h, T; `& x5 t, u
− so arranged that the likelihood of breakdown occurring due to the presence of pinholes in
6 `; C( m) ~4 B; a6 n4 Kthin layers of insulation is limited.
6 J' p( m" h% r3 O' HSolvent-based enamel is accepted only on winding wire as described in 2.10.5.13.
! @# h: X, M: j1 pExcept for printed boards, SOLID INSULATION shall either
3 l X ]% M& P! A/ y' \- R− comply with minimum distances through insulation in accordance with 2.10.5.2; or
6 M% g0 P/ _4 }* K- f* a8 l− meet the requirements and pass the tests in 2.10.5.3 to 2.10.5.13, as applicable.# r! I9 t7 d( I1 ]$ _3 T
NOTE 1 For printed boards, see 2.10.6.

Compliance with the requirements of 2.10.5.2 to 2.10.5.14 for the adequacy of SOLID
/ X2 v6 A, Q: U0 I4 g+ RINSULATION is verified by inspection and measurement, taking into account Annex F, by the4 v! D, D. a- v% w% @
electric strength tests of 5.2 and by any additional tests required in 2.10.5.4 to 2.10.5.14.

i) y( X9 \2 H1 d! uIf a design is based on distances through insulation, these distances shall be dimensioned: n( L2 t+ z% q: N! t% U
according to the application of the insulation (see 2.9) and as follows (see Figure F.14):
6 S: n% x* U! n− if the PEAK WORKING VOLTAGE does not exceed 71 V, there is no requirement for distance
* K3 P2 Y2 R6 c* G! ~through insulation;( `% N8 }2 V* j+ j7 J( \! D; G
− if the PEAK WORKING VOLTAGE exceeds 71 V, the f ollowing rules apply:( R: }" h3 m- `* s
• for FUNCTIONAL INSULATION and BASIC INSULATION there is no minimum distance through0 D; }8 F- I, t/ u1 K. P
insulation;
# A& e+ F# G4 h3 g• SUPPLEMENTARY INSULATION or REINFORCED INSULATION shall have a distance through- _" y2 Y6 g0 N/ S
insulation that is 0,4 mm or greater, provided by a single layer.
