Question: Is it possible to issue approvals on luminaires provided with LEDs light source?
1 |& f5 {" \9 M; F7 qDecision: Yes, provided that:
% P0 n+ c7 N  w- p0 ^3 j(1) The LED circuit is verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-2 (*) or IEC/EN
61347-2-11. If the laser emits radiation in the wavelength range from 180 nm to 1
mm, the LED shall also be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1 (Safety of laser
products). Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be used without problems

2 y9 a" `3 P) f/ P* Y4 u/ U6 d(2) The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 are carried out as
follows:
(a) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear can be tested
" }7 y( \4 n; ]6 b$ aaccording to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.
(b) For Class III luminaires, the luminaires manufacturer shall provide on
the instructions all the necessary information to supply the LED circuit
! I- b2 H& M7 {, n$ ^correctly or shall inform the Testing Station about the trade mark, the type
$ Y9 S* Z1 J7 r4 {and the technical characteristics of the appropriate control gear. There can
7 |: I, \4 g; Q, w* D& q) z* q- Q& G  l) Ebe three different control gears: the type and the trade mark indicated by the
luminaire manufacturer; an electronic control gear clearly specified on the
% Q! j, U3 K1 h. Y0 l0 |8 y- A2 ^luminaire instructions; a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be

the appropriate control gear.
(*) When IEC/EN 61347-2-13 will be published, it will takes over IEC/EN
