9 l6 e1 L. Q% mDecision: In principle apply the requirements given in IEC/EN 60825-1. However in order8 r" p- z- Z' h: z
to avoid expensive measurements, the luminaires provided with LEDs should be; w9 t" d: e. I
treated in the following:
* t6 n) Y/ x/ |- y7 q/ c! R- If the light intensity is low, i.e. from a conventional LED for indication or signalling! N1 E" a+ I* b ^& V
purposes, the LED is most likely comparable with a laser of Class 1 according to
+ _' }# \, p% u8 [( g k# S5 tIEC/EN 60825-1 and consequently there is no need measurements. During the
% x4 S8 L1 Q1 [6 N3 H& Wjudgement the covers, optics and similar, which can be removed by hand, shall be6 p% [1 e) E8 G5 a
removed. In the TRF it is indicated that the light intensity has been judged to comply5 e6 m7 h: m# o* c4 i/ P+ c5 J
with the limits given for Class 1 lasers in IEC/EN 60825-1 and no measurements are/ K2 L1 Y4 B. l

- In all other cases the luminaire manufacturer shall be asked to provide a declaration. A8 W9 `* J* `
based on relevant tests (e.g. from the LEDs manufacturer) showing that the radiation
+ q! R" b g, n% r* E6 U& L8 d' ffrom the LED module will not exceed the values given in IEC/EN 60825-1 for Class 16 X' X; P; ~) X3 m _
or1M lasers with or without optics. In the TRF it is noted that judgements have been

4 ?) [& c# ]4 ~8 s( [; d; p# @- If such a declaration cannot be provided or if we are insecure on how to judge, the$ q8 W& b$ W+ J4 W/ k1 \. m# ~
measurements given in IEC/EN 60825-1 shall be performed. In the TRF it is indicated
3 b- Z& `9 p& s& Pthat measurements have been performed. For luminaires containing light sources
. b" ^+ M% d# lproviding radiation according to Class 2 lasers, the luminaire shall be treated as a laser6 a2 L7 n. t9 u ?
source according to IEC/EN 60825-1 and comply with the requirements given in that
* ^0 x( K: A' ]+ ^standard.
