Testing of a plug that is an integral part of a plug-in equipment
14.23.2
60884-1(ed.3);am1 & 60884-2-5(ed.1)
Question:
If a plug is an integral part of plug-in equipment, that equipment shall not cause overheating of the pins or impose undue strain on fixed socket-outlets. Compliance is checked by sub-clause 14.23.2.
For adaptors, intermediate adaptors included (e.g. plug-in timers), the adaptor is first fitted with a plug complete with 1 m of 0,75 mm2 circular flexible cable according to 227 IEC 53, to each socket-outlet portion of the adaptor.
What type of plug is to be fitted to socket-outlet?
Decision:
The plug is to be the highest rated plug intended to be used with the socket-outlet part of the adaptor.
Plug and socket-outlet shall always be from the same system. It is not correct to always use the 2.5 A ’Europlug’ (EN 50075).
