1 Scope

wall-mounted, counter mounted, or combinations thereof, rated 600 V or less, for installation in9 A" ]) {3 U* n6 b( a
accordance with the National Electrical Code.
, C1 B( U; L+ K1 _1.2 These requirements also cover ventilating hoods that are provided as an integral part of the cooking

electrical connection to the cooking equipment with which they are intended to be used.: l) h4 e/ ]( `
1.3 These requirements do not cover commercial cooking appliances.

judged on the basis of compliance with the requirements in this standard, insofar as they apply, and: F1 a z; G) b* T9 W
further appropriate examination and tests in accordance with the applicable requirements for electric

5 p$ l4 p4 S: A2 R% ]1.5 For the purpose of these requirements, cooking equipment includes ranges, ovens, surface
) _* e. X! F8 D: Uassemblies, or combinations thereof. A range is considered to be a combination of a surface assembly5 D& U" p! l: n7 v" F, A
with one or more ovens. Wall-mounted cooking equipment is considered to be those appliances intended
- M$ Q' A" A9 t9 e' Y# Afor mounting in or on a wall or other vertical surface of a building or cabinet. Counter-mounted cooking
' F2 l& q% _3 V* j& B. \equipment is considered to be those appliances intended for mounting in or on a counter or other

1.6 In the following text, a requirement that applies only to one, two, or three of the classes of equipment

! l5 z: h7 ?" n/ e/ x; X2 W: V4 Xor combinations thereof – are so identified. In the absence of such specific reference, or if the term1 [" w; n! K3 r, T7 ?
appliance is employed, it is to be understood that the requirement applies to all of these classes of

~. \2 H6 a$ ]7 v9 Y. }- l! z1.7 A product that contains features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems new or different- @+ d% J5 U; s3 v" q+ o
from those covered by the requirements in this standard, and that involves a risk of fire or of electric shock- a' B- D! O2 \, i
or injury to persons shall be evaluated using appropriate additional component and end-product
( J- j! a9 F7 G, w' O5 rrequirements to maintain the level of safety as originally anticipated by the intent of this standard. A. z' I5 n/ c& [. C
product whose features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems conflict with specific" @7 P% [* c! z O) H
requirements or provisions of this standard does not comply with this standard. Revision of requirements: g, Q- Z, R7 {; h& H
shall be proposed and adopted in conformance with the methods employed for development, revision, and
