Overview
% b, b5 V" b+ H/ @6 f* XThis program provides traceability for wiring harnesses that are; ~$ t' e' N: R: C, C6 o" I
assembled at off-site locations and intended for use as factory, U, l, J" t% |) v o8 L
installed components at an end-product manufacturing facility. They1 q( M1 V/ I0 S" R/ C) w
are defined as components consisting of two or more wires joined
& w j* E% J/ s7 |5 ]electrically and/or mechanically, and may include connectors, plugs,
" Y$ `5 R- l* f' x5 Bstrain reliefs, splices, etc. When assembled at an off-site location,
2 h q$ }1 @$ C" R: n& z- p; d- V; etraceability for components used to construct a wiring harness is
4 B. q' y+ I# `8 q6 ]not possible at an end-product factory location. This program can
/ C4 @: R) O# b* \5 i0 n, u8 { ebe used to provide this traceability. Each wiring harness is normally' ^% y6 h4 g4 l. \4 a/ e2 E+ D0 R
constructed in accordance with a harness diagram and is generally
3 Q- y6 x; j! @1 @- i3 `4 zdesigned for a specific application that is indicated on a diagram
f" z7 l! v: `$ }+ Oor carton marking. These wiring harnesses are not intended for P- v. ~% h- C$ G
field installation. An assembly consisting solely of a cord set, power
8 _$ c: U0 W) B) |, msupply cord or power supply cord attached to an appliance such as+ l5 t h6 w1 b; K; t* X& ?) N& M
a motor is not eligible for coverage under this program./ n5 [7 E" m$ o1 u7 M- e* r
Method of traceability& K4 F5 I! |/ [6 T
An off-site fabricator assembles a wiring harness in accordance with9 G3 j5 v! B6 Y7 J$ g ~: Q
a harness diagram, print or other specification from an end-product1 |* f" Z) t! l9 p2 s6 ?' x/ ]
manufacturer that details construction elements and components2 p0 u0 i. `/ s; a
to be used in assembling a harness. A harness manufacturer
5 M! ~8 d3 ?0 h" k6 e9 n! S2 Dwill assemble a harness in accordance with these specifications
8 E1 t) d0 j) x" Q: [! {' |and, provided that a wiring harness is in compliance with these
0 S& c' l9 R4 a1 ^specifications, it may be shipped with the UL Mark. Traceability for+ v6 C' [: h! y/ Z: z) T- b. {
these construction elements is further determined at an end-product1 `) k% x; w7 v. N0 r8 T: [
manufacturing location and involves verifying that these features

The UL Recognized Component Mark on the smallest bundle or unit/ `% x5 B: S% u/ d! Y
container in which a product is packaged is the only method used1 F) y: i# \1 p$ I
to identify wiring harnesses manufactured under the UL Recognition
