Question: Is it possible to approve luminaires provided with LEDs?; W, s: e2 C9 P. B6 h
Decision: Yes, provided that:
1 a% F) Z" P( {9 e: F. a- the LED circuit shall be verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-13 or IEC/EN
/ c' g; S3 D3 X+ e3 e61347-2-11 (*) and the LED shall be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1: s) k# ~5 G Q
(Safety of laser products) (§)-(#), if it has laser radiation in the wavelength
! B+ E; ~! v' Q n$ qranging from 180 nm to 1 mm. Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be w: S' Q% B& `* K! h& Z
used without problems for lighting purposes without protection.7 k D# q; a1 e# V2 L2 T* ?6 z
- The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 shall be carried. a0 `2 x5 N: N% C
out as follows:
: I! q, S+ O. m+ x7 |( ha) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear shall be tested. v: K G! S$ f! A9 o: @
according to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6., [* \. g( _: W% k/ i
b) For Class III luminaires the manufacturer shall provide the necessary
9 ~4 y0 j ?" Z' k/ E' N6 H$ N# X% binformation to power up the LED circuit correctly in the instruction sheet.
: G8 `: H( |! ~ N: _' D5 c+ x4 wAlternatively, the manufacturer shall inform Testing Station about the
7 D8 }, c0 q7 T: C" W% Htrade mark, the type and the technical characteristics of the appropriate
" n) d7 }9 ~" U+ f* Acontrol gear to be used. There are three different control gears namely, the9 e+ V8 Y4 s5 A3 @
type and the trade mark as indicated by the luminaire manufacturer; an2 ?# x+ I0 w5 }2 ]
electronic control gear clearly specified in the luminaire instruction sheet! ~0 I: b: m% O' ]
and a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be carried out as required9 @* n. T, `; ~, v8 J0 r
in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with the appropriate control

(*) When IEC/EN 62031 (34A/1168/CDV) will be published, it will takes$ z6 z' h/ N2 x4 t; ?, n2 @! L
over IEC/EN 61347-2-11.
