In case of doubt, the spillage test is carried out with the appliance deviating from the normal position of use by an angle not exceeding 5°.

Kettles that can be filled through the spout are also tested on a plane inclined at an angle of 20° to the horizontal, with the spout uppermost. The kettle is filled with water containing approximately 1 % NaCl to the maximum level, if this indication is visible from the filling position, otherwise until water spills from the kettle.
