2.10.5.1 General

insulating compound also apply to gel materials, used for this purpose.

− so dimensioned that overvoltages, including transients, that enter the equipment, and
% \) K9 ?, I! H7 M8 ?4 J Ipeak voltages that may be generated within the equipment, do not break down the SOLID7 J2 F! ]5 e- D/ }' b
INSULATION; and
# e1 v! ]$ H+ C% h% E. [− so arranged that the likelihood of breakdown occurring due to the presence of pinholes in
" X0 L% c+ b* t, y2 s, I: ]* Pthin layers of insulation is limited." M8 s1 h# |) V4 I, O( P3 w' Y: Y+ v
Solvent-based enamel is accepted only on winding wire as described in 2.10.5.13., |7 Q' L7 K$ N. ~ t
Except for printed boards, SOLID INSULATION shall either
" k9 \, v0 x' g+ w* ]− comply with minimum distances through insulation in accordance with 2.10.5.2; or8 ?% j a1 P q
− meet the requirements and pass the tests in 2.10.5.3 to 2.10.5.13, as applicable.# ~: y, l8 b f* L) f

Compliance with the requirements of 2.10.5.2 to 2.10.5.14 for the adequacy of SOLID/ l4 g0 k# B2 e7 x1 i G3 U
INSULATION is verified by inspection and measurement, taking into account Annex F, by the
# R, T) w" m- ^* K5 ]* w% @electric strength tests of 5.2 and by any additional tests required in 2.10.5.4 to 2.10.5.14.% N" b. U) o+ _. G2 w' ] p
2.10.5.2 Distances through insulation
W z/ p& n+ v/ [+ J- R+ _1 eIf a design is based on distances through insulation, these distances shall be dimensioned! ^3 y' o' j# ]# z; Q7 z
according to the application of the insulation (see 2.9) and as follows (see Figure F.14):$ f o& o$ N4 N! |. n
− if the PEAK WORKING VOLTAGE does not exceed 71 V, there is no requirement for distance- F! q4 D1 N8 ?( @% S* Q$ g/ s
through insulation;! u/ v, b( |, X
− if the PEAK WORKING VOLTAGE exceeds 71 V, the f ollowing rules apply:0 Q5 n' I0 M' X
• for FUNCTIONAL INSULATION and BASIC INSULATION there is no minimum distance through& z) Z; W0 K' R
insulation;
& @7 o6 o M# A• SUPPLEMENTARY INSULATION or REINFORCED INSULATION shall have a distance through
1 c" v+ \5 K& E+ q8 V% n! tinsulation that is 0,4 mm or greater, provided by a single layer.
