. {" d, L+ U) X& wAnnex R of 60947-1, subclause R.2.2, gives instructions for the geometrical zones,
" O. b3 A* c4 S9 v5 [, |3 r4 Twhere the metal foil shall be applied. The examples in Figure R.3 have often been a
cause for discussions between test laboratory and customer as to which surfaces
. P* _0 L5 \7 D1 e8 Z' \shall be covered and whether or not the foil may come in contact with hazardous-liveparts
- t, w$ q, a! ^6 d5 o(e.g. terminals and connected conductors) located in these zones.
  ~# g* y& k- A9 q9 rThe text of R.2.2 clearly states that all surfaces within the defined safety zones shall
& a) G, d1 ]$ X+ jbe covered by the metal foil regardless of the orientation, unless the manufacturer
provides specification for mounting or the use of additional enclosures preventing
access to these surfaces.
0 }9 E. u" G) l! Y7 H% ]The guidelines not only state that the foil shall not be depressed into holes but also
indicate that this requirement shall be applied to holes, where the test finger cannot
penetrate (see note to figure R.3). This might be interpreted to the effect that the foil
& s; R& B5 s6 u6 i5 \) W& q- r$ k1 mshall be adapted to outlines of the device forming cavities with diameters larger than
12.5 mm, according to the shape of the test finger.
