All comments received in response to our February 21,2012 Bulletin have been reviewed and ,based on the response,UL is postponing withdrawal for UL 469,UL 813,UL1492 and UL 6500 that was scheduled for May 1,2012. The new date of withdrawal of these Standards will be determined(TBD) at a future date and coincide with an anticipated Second Edition of UL 62368-1(Standard for Audio/Video,Information and Communication Technology Equipment-Part 1:Safety Requirements) becoming effective for all products.% w8 d9 t$ ?! p) _
Concurrent with postponing the withdrawal of the legacy standard,UL is suspending the May 1,2012 Effective Date for all products to comply with UL 60065. As a result, there will be no future effective date established when the recommended IEC Technical Committee TC 108 transition schedule from IEC 60065 to IEC 62368-1 has become better defined (the current expectation is that transition may occur in the 2018 timeframe). Note that the original driver to develop ANSI/UL 60065 standard was harmonization with the IEC standard and was not motivated by any known safety related issues. This affords some flexibility as to when the transition is completed.$ \* Q S( a% ]5 t
UL has established a date of May 1,2013 as the last date by which we will accept new model submittals to UL 469,UL 813,UL 1492 and UL 6500. After this date, products submitted will be evaluated using the requirements of UL 60065. Requirements for alternate components and minor constuction changes to products previously Certified to these standards will continiue to be accepted beyond this date for a period of time that will be coordinated with the future withdrawal date of the legacy audio/video standards. In the meantime,UL encoourages manufactures to opt for use of UL 60065 for product evaluations where practical. Use of the UL 60065 standard will facilitate transition to the UL 62368-1 standard while providing the additional benefit of a single product design that can meet global product safety standards that are based upon IEC Standards.* q2 W" y0 ]+ i2 j
For those Applicants who acted in anticipation of what has become a suspended effective date, revisions to UL Follow-Up Procedures, including deletion of models and specific constructions on the previous effective date, will remain in place unless an Applicant specifically requests that Ul reverse such revisions. Applicants interested in retaining such models or constructions until the new Effective Date should contact UL's Customer Service Department immediately.
