QuestionFor the Standard IEC 60730-1 4th Ed. there is required:
The solvents used are:
– neutral liquid detergent blended from alkyl benzene sulphonate and non-ionic detergents;
– petroleum spirit (aliphatic solvent hexane with a content of aromatics of maximum 0,1 volume %, a
Kauributanol value of 29, initial boiling point of approximately 65 °C and dry point approximately 69 °C, and
specific gravity of approximately 0,68 g/cm3); and water.
For the standard IEC 60335-1 5th Ed. There is now required:
The petroleum spirit to be used for the test is aliphatic solvent hexane.
- For the standard IEC 60598-1 7th Ed. There is required:
NOTE The petroleum spirit used should consist of a solvent hexane with a content of aromatics of
maximum 0,1 % by volume, a value of 29 % for kauri-butanol, an initial boiling-point of approximately 65
°C, a dry-point of approximately 69 °C and a densit y of approximately 0,68 g/cm3.
- For the standard IEC 60950-1 2nd Ed. There is required:
The petroleum spirit to be used for the test is aliphatic solvent hexane having a maximum aromatics
content of 0,1 % by volume, a kauributenol value of 29, an initial boiling point of approximately 65 °C, a dry
point of approximately 69 °C and a mass per unit vo lume of approximately 0,7 kg/l.
As an alternative, it is permitted to use a reagent grade hexane with a minimum of 85 % as n-hexane.
NOTE The designation “n-hexane” is chemical nomenclature for a "normal" or straight chain hydrocarbon.
This petroleum spirit may further be identified as a certified ACS (American Chemical Society) reagent
grade hexane
(CAS# 110-54-3).
The exact chemical solvent formula is difficult to find in the marketplace.
The various TCs are kindly requested to consider "harmonizing" the solvent accordingly.
