Subject: Concrete Vibrators Key words: Decision n. taken at 23rd
meeting/1986
Question: The circuits supplying motors and other components inside parts which, in normal use, are
either immersed in the mixture to be vibrated or held in the hand or operated by hand, shall be
adequately isolated from the supply mains.
Compliance is checked by inspection.
This requirement may be met by supplying the relevant components either from a safety
isolating transformer or from an isolating transformer or motor-generator providing the same
degree of isolation from the supply mains as a safety isolating transformer and having an rated
output voltage not exceeding
115 V at frequencies not exceeding 60 Hz
250 V at frequencies exceeding 60 Hz.

We would like to hear the opinion of the committee if a concrete vibrator class II, 250 V, 50
Hz without being supplied from an isolating transformer or motor-generator fulfills the
requirements stated in clause 8.6.
Decision: Mr. kraaij then introduces document IECEE/CTL (CH) 004/1986 concerning IEC Publication
745-1 and 745-2-12, Concrete vibrators. The Austrian document IECEE/CTL (A-EXP) 02/89 is
treated at the same time.
After discussion the Committee expressed as its opinion that there are three possibilities for
this type of equipment with regard to supply connection, namely:
1. safety isolating transformer
2. isolating transformer
3. motor generator
