Question:
In the Foreword of the second edition of IEC/EN 61558-1 the following statement occurs: “This new
edition of Part 1 is only to be used in conjunction with parts 2 based on this edition. The Parts 2 contain
clauses of this Part 1 in order to provide the relevant requirements for each type of transformers”.
However, only 3 sections of Parts 2 (2-1, 2-2 and 2-7) are based on the second edition of part 1 today.
A) How do we deal with manufacturers that wish to use the second edition of Part 1 for sections of Parts 2
that are not based on second edition of Part 1? Can we use the second edition of Part 1?
B) How to treat a case where a transformer is covered by two different sections of Parts 2, one linked to
the second edition and the other linked to the first edition of Part 1?
C) If so, what kind of TRF shall be used?
Decision:
A) No.
B) Apply the corresponding Part 1.
C) Use the relevant TRF.
