Marking, Terminals And Operating Devices
5.1.6(f)
61010-1(ed.1);am1;am2

Standard:
IEC 61010-
1:1990+A1:1992+A2:1995
Sub clause:
5.1.6(f)
Sheet n. 298
Page 1(1)
Subject:
Marking, Terminals and Operating
Devices
Key words:
- Marking
- Mains
Decision taken by
ETF3 and confirmed
by CTL at its 38th
meeting, in Toronto
Question:
Can symbols 9 and 10 of Table 1 (0,1) be used for any other purpose than mains
disconnection?
Decision:
The standard states these symbols are reserved for mains disconnection devices, the symbols
should therefore, be used only for this purpose. However, these symbols are allowed for
other use in other IEC standards and some Test laboratories therefore, exercise discretion on
this matter provided the mains separation device is clearly indicated either on the unit or in
the handbook.
Explanation:
It is likely that the use of 0,1 symbols will be reviewed across all IEC documents and,
pending this review, it is important that the mains disconnection device is clearly identified
either on the equipment or in the instructions for use.
