Subject:
High Integrity Components, Note
Key words:
- Integrity
- Rating
Decision taken by
ETF3 and confirmed
by CTL at its 38th
meeting, in Toronto
Question:
The note indicates that a resistor rated for twice the working power level can be considered
to be high integrity, similarly it may be considered that capacitors with twice the rated
voltage are high integrity. How is this note applied ?
Decision:
This note is not clear in its meaning and one is cautioned to take care in its use. A clear
explanation should always be given when a component which is accepted as high integrity
does not have an approval to a recognised standard for that purpose.
Explanation:
The note does not provide a comprehensive set of conditions to establish high integrity.
Differing methods of construction may result in different lifetime expectation and different
failure modes.
