Question:
Do laser pointers fall within the scope of IEC61010-1?
Decision:
Laser pointers when used for professional / industrial purposes as part of the equipment are
covered by the scope, however it may not cover stand alone pointers which may be covered
under consumer standards.
Explanatory Notes:
Concern were expressed in particular for children’s (and others ) safety who may be unaware
of the hazards using / playing with Laser pointers as a toy, it is therefore proposed that the
subject is discussed at the TC66/WG1 meeting with a view to exclude such type of lasers
from the scope.
