Question:
For CAT III (300V) or CAT II (600V) a distance between Live metal parts and accessible parts should be 6.5 mm. In practice with touch-safe 4mm plugs this distance is not maintained (mostly 6 mm, see drawing attached). How do test houses deal with this?
Decision:
Where test leads are provide as part of equipment under test then the leads must also comply with IEC61010. If test leads are not part of the equipment under test then the user handbook must say that the leads to be connected to the equipment shall also comply with IEC61010 requirements, i.e. 6.5mm requirement shall be met.
