Question:
Does PTFE basic insulated cable in the interior of a chandelier pipe in a luminaire meet the requirements
of sub clause 5.3 of IEC 60598-1 provided that the insulation in question meets the dielectric strength
required but the thickness of that insulation is only 0,2 mm.
Decision:
According to IEC this is acceptable, the 0,6 mm reference in the standard is only required for PVC and
rubber. For other insulating materials, normal requirements apply with respect to insulation resistance and
high voltage test.
