Standard(s):
IEC 60598-1 All editions
Subclause(s): 5.3.1
No. Year DSH 0889 2010
Category: LITE Developed by: ETF5 OSM/LUM
Subject:
Through wiring in the luminaires
Key words:
- Luminaire manufacturer
- Skilled persons
- Cable/wiring
Approved at the 49th CTL Plenary Meeting, in 2012
Question:
Through wiring of luminaires doesn't need to be delivered with the luminaire, if the way of mounting is
clear from the manufacturer's instructions. However, if special cables or sleeves, e.g. due to high
temperatures, are necessary, the through wiring shall always be factory assembled. The cables and sleeves
have to be built-in in case of high temperatures. Is that example also applicable in case of special cables
(double insulated, normal temperature, </= 90°C) to fulfil the class II requirements?
Decision:
Such constructions are acceptable provided that:
- the luminaires are assembled by skilled technical persons;
- the act of assembling is clearly described in the instructions;
- the cable/wiring is delivered by the luminaire manufacturer only.
