Subject:
Rated lumen output for emergency safety sign using LED lamp array as light source
Key words:
- Lumen output
- LED lamp
- Reference lamps
To be approved at the 49th CTL Plenary Meeting, in
2012
Question:
Some emergency luminaires use LED lamp array as light source. Please advise on the correct method of
measuring lumen output of such a LED lamp (or lamp array). What kind of reference lamps can we use to
measure lumen output of the LED lamp (or lamp array)?
Decision:
The use of LEDs for emergency lighting signs has been questioned within IEC SC 34D/WG/LUMEX
with the result that the WG should consider LEDs in a forthcoming edition of IEC 60598-2-22
(measurements methods, reference lamps etc.).
If an Ulbricht integrating sphere is used, the used reference light source shall be of an output lumen value
and light colour that is close as possible to the nominal claimed output and light colour of the sample
under test.
