Subject:
Ballast Lumen Factor (BLF) and flux output measurement after 500 ON-OFF changeover operations
Key words:
- Ballast Lumen Factor (BLF)
- Flux measurement
- Changeover operations
To be approved at the 49th CTL Plenary Meeting, in 2012
Question:
§ 22.17.2 of IEC 60598-2-22 states – “after these cycles (500 on-off’s) the supply shall again be reduced
to 0,6 times rated voltage and the luminaire shall provide the rated lumen output after 60s or respective
lamp current after 0,5s for high-risk task area lighting luminaires”. Further, § 22.17.3 states – “after the
final lumen output measurement in accordance with § 22.17.2…”. It is fairly evident that the rated flux of
the luminaire shall take into account the flux measurement after these 500 changeover operations. § 20 of
IEC 61347-2-7 states – “the changeover from normal supply to emergency mode and back shall be in
accordance with 22.17 of IEC 60598-2-22”. Does this mean that BLF should be measured after the 500
on-off’s changeover operations, exactly the same way as flux output for emergency luminaires specified
in 22.17 of IEC 60598-2-22?
Decision:
Yes, for the time being. (The matter is under discussion in COMEX).
