Subject:
Temperature measurement on the battery
Key words:
- Thermocouple
- Battery body
- Hottest part
To be approved at the 49th CTL Plenary Meeting, in 2012
Question:
Consider a self-contained emergency luminaire with the battery near to the transformer (distance of about
2 mm). Please advise how could the measurement requirement of the above subclauses, in which a
thermocouple is to be placed within 5 mm but not touching the cells of the battery compartment of the
luminaire be fulfilled?
Decision:
To put the thermocouple midpoint between the transformer and the battery.
Question:
According to the above mentioned decision, in case of temperature measurement on the battery when this
is only 2 mm away from the transformer, the thermocouple has to be put at the midpoint between the two
parts. How should the thermocouple be placed if an insulating material of thickness less than 5 mm fills
the space between the battery and the transformer?
Decision:
In direct contact with the hottest part of the battery body.
