Standard(s):
IEC 60400 All editions
Subclause(s): 17.5
No. Year PDSH 0990 2010
Category: LITE Developed by: ETF5 OSM/LUM
Subject:
Fire resistance of material retaining live parts in position
Key words:
- Integrated lampholders
- Fire resistance
- PCBs
To be approved at the 49th CTL Plenary Meeting, in 2012
Question:
Consider a gear box of a down light with integrated GX 24 lampholders. In such a gear box the
lampholder housing and lamp retention are both parts of the gear box front. The lampholder contacts are
then fitted to the PCB of the electronic ballast.
How do we apply the needle flame test in this case:
- On the PCB only?
- On the complete lampholder, i.e. on the lampholder housing?
Decision:
The needle flame is applied to the parts which retain current carrying parts in position. The surrounding
parts must be kept in place during the tests.
