Question:
Can the sentence in the manual related to the use of the equipment by children and
handicapped people be shortened to the following: “The appliance must only be used
by, or under supervision of a responsible adult? Use and store the appliance out of
reach of children”
Decision:
The reduced sentence does not reflect the concern of the standard and should be
printed as mentioned in the 60335-1 in its entirety, “This appliance is not intended for
use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given
supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for
their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the
appliance." otherwise its substance should be surely kept.
Also the manufacturer can always go further than required by the standard.
