Decision of: 28th CTL meeting and 29th CTL meeting to be reaffirmed at 39th meeting.
Question:
(A) Is it allowable to put an on-off switch on the plug of household appliance of IP X4
construction?
(B) If the plug is to be considered as a full part of the appliance itself, must the plug be
submitted to the relevant test for IP X4?
Decision:
(A) If the use of a switch is not prohibited in the relevant part 2 standard, it could be used on
the plug.
(B) In such a case, the switch is tested as a part of the appliance during the humidity test.
The plug is subjected to the IP X4 test only if an appropriate plug is required on the
appliance.
