Sufficient resiliency in socket-contact assembly in order to ensure adequate contact pressure
14.5
60884-1(ed.2)
Question:
Is it acceptable that contact pressure relies fully or partly on plastic material?
Decision:
No, it is not acceptable that contact pressure relies fully or partly on plastic material.
Each socket contact of the multiple socket rail shall be subject to the test of clause 22.2 of IEC 60884-1, but with the rails removed from the socket outlet. The minimum withdrawal forces shall be:
• 1,5N for multiple socket-outlets up to 10 A.
• 2N for multiple socket-outlets above 10A up to and including 16 A.
• 3N for multiple socket-outlets above 16A up to and including 32 A.
This test ensures that the resiliency of the contacts does not rely on the pressure against the thermoplastic parts of the socket casing.
